PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly bring an incensing agent into contact with piled materials to be treated and to prevent incensing unevenness by feeding the incensing agent to an incensing agent feed opening installed below the materials to be treated housed in a furnace body, raising the incensing agent through the furnace body and exhausting it from an opening of a flue arranged at the upper part of the furnace body. SOLUTION: A number of materials to be treated (a) are piled and arranged through pallets (b) in a furnace body 1, baked by burners 6 and an incensing agent is fed from an incensing agent feed opening of a pipe 8 installed in a channel 7 of a hearth 2. The incensing agent is expanded in the high-temperature furnace body 1, diffused and raised, uniformly brought into contact with a number of the materials to be treated (a) and thermally decomposed to incense the materials to be treated. The excessive incensing agent is exhausted from an exhaust vent 13 of a damper 12 arranged on a projection 11 of a flue 10 laid in the interior of a furnace body ceiling 3. After the completion of incensing treatment, the supply of the incensing agent is stopped and an outlet 13 is closed by a cap 14. The furnace is naturally cooled in a closed state to a temperature at which coating films on the surface of the treated materials (a) are not oxidized even if the coating films are brought into contact with air.
