PRODUCTION OF TRANSFORMANT OF PLANT OF COFFEA AND TRANSFORMANT COFFEE PLANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stable transformant of a plant belonging to the genus Coffea useful for improvement of breed of molecular breeding by infecting a bacterium of the genus Agrobacterium with a callus having blastogenic ability of plant of the genus Coffea and introducing an extraneous gene into the bacterium. SOLUTION: A bacterium of the genus Agrobacterium(e.g. Agrobacterium tumefaciens, etc.), is infected with a callus having blastogenic ability of plant of the genus Coffea such as C. arabica, C. canephora, C. liberica or C. dewevrei. An extraneous gene such as a gene resistant to bialaphos or a caffeine synthase gene is introduced into the bacterium to give a transformant of plant of the genus Coffea useful for improvement of breed of molecular breeding of coffee plant.
