PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject coating agent having excellent thermal stability, chemical stability, compatibility and a visible light transmissiveness in parallel with maintaining near infrared light absorbability, capable of improving molding processability and useful for window materials of buildings, or the like, by dissolving and/or dispersing a specific component in a liquid medium. SOLUTION: The coating agent comprises by dissolving and/or dispersing at least one component of (A) a component comprising cupper ion and a phosphoric acid ester compound of formula I R is a radical of formula II [R1 is a 1-20C alkyl; R2 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; (m) is 1-6] or the like; (n) is 1 or 2) and (B) a component comprising a phosphoric acid ester cupper compound of formula III or formula IV (M is cupper ion) in a liquid medium. The heat ray-absorbable composite material is provided with a base material having transmissivity especially preferably glass, and a near-infrared light absorbable layer, which contains at least one component of component A and component B, and is arranged on the above base material.
