PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the working length of a steering system of a vehicle and to permit positive collapsing action in case of collision. SOLUTION: This adjusting device is provided with a column carrier 10 of U-shaped cross section fixed to the vehicle side through a projecting part formed by bending a part outward; a stem 11 inserted through a through hole 10b piercing a lug at the end of the column carrier 10 and a rotating seat 12 at the end of a column shaft 14, to connect the column carrier 10 and column shaft 14 relatively rotatably in a longitudnal direction; an intermediate member 20 of U-shaped cross section having extension parts bent inwardly from both sides of a base part in constant contact with the column carrier 10 and holding a column external pipe surrounding the colum shaft 14; a lower moving member 22 of U-shaped cross section disposed between the extension parts of the intermediate member 20 and jointed to the column external pipe through inwardly bent extension parts; and a stem 17 inserted through an oblong hole 19 piercing the respective extension parts of the intermediate member 20 and lower moving member 22, to fix both members 20, 22. |
