PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension leveller which can form an optional tension distribution in a metallic strip width direction even if volume of a tension difference is small, and a correction method using it. SOLUTION: In a tensile force region of a strip to be formed between upper and lower stream bridle roll units 4, an elongation roll unit 2 for giving an elongation to a strip in the strip forwarding direction, and a correction roll unit 3 for correcting warpage of the strip are installed at a lower stream of the elongation roll unit 2 in sequence. Also, a cooling roll 1, which can change surface temperature in a roll axial direction, is installed at an inlet of the elongation roll unit 2 so as to form a thermal difference in a strip width direction with this roll 1. Then, a flattening correction is performed by the elongation roll unit 2 and the correction roll unit 3.
