PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch device for controlling the adjustment release of a vehicle brake when maintenance is required, for example replacement of a friction pad. SOLUTION: A vehicle brake is of caliper type to electrically operate an active adjustment of the operational play of brake linings 26 and 34, wherein an axial direction displacement of tappets 22 and 24 inside the brake is generated by an angular displacement of a rotary member 14 of the brake caused by an external actuator, and the actuator input load is transmitted to the brake linings 26 and 34. The brake is equipped with a switch to supply a brake adjustment release signal when the brake application is to be disengaged for replacement of linings. The switch is installed on or inside the body of brake calipers and embodied in a non-contact switch configuration to be started with a rotational motion given from the rotary member 14 of the brake in compliance to the wear of linings.
