AC plasma display panel includes front (11) and rear substrate (12), with gap between. Pairs of discharge maintaining electrodes (13,14) on surface of front substrate and data electrodes (15) are arranged on surface of rear electrode perpendicular to discharge maintaining electrodes. Auxiliary electrode (20) of pre-determined thickness is fitted between each pair of discharge maintaining electrodes. The a.c. plasma display panel of the discharge to surface type includes: - a front substrate (11) and a rear substrate (12) which are opposed to each other at a pre-determined distance; - walls designed to maintain a gap between the front substrate and the rear substrate and to form discharge spaces; - pairs of discharge maintaining electrodes (13,14) arranged in bands on a surface of the front substrate (11) so that they are parallel to each other, and; - data electrodes (15) arranged on a surface of the rear electrode in bands perpendicular to the discharge maintaining electrodes (13,14). An auxiliary electrode (20) of a pre-determine thickness is fitted between each pair of discharge maintaining electrodes (13,14). The thickness of this auxiliary electrode (20) is such that it does not increase the electrostatic capacity of the electrode pairs (13,14). A firing pulse is applied to the auxiliary electrode (20) at an earlier instant to the time in which the discharge maintaining pulses are applied to the electrodes (13,14). |
