PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using a signaling procedure for setting a switched virtual channel between ATM end systems without the aid of an ATM exchange by connecting one device with another device through the use of a channel identified by a connection identifier. SOLUTION: A step for permitting one device to transmit a message containing a connection identifier to another device and a step for permitting another device to transmit a message showing that the connection identifier is received to one device are installed.
