PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a light projecting and detecting device for a spectroscopic analyzer for projecting measuring light on a sample to detect the reflected light from the sample so as to make it hard to generate the light projecting or detecting inferiority caused by the size difference of the sample. SOLUTION: A light projecting portion holder 13d provided with a light projecting portion 11a is supported so as to be freely movable in a light projecting direction, and the pinion gear 17 meshed with a rack gear 16 provided to the attaching part 13c connected to the light projecting portion holder 13d is subjected to turning operation by an electromotor 18. When the size of a sample S is different, the electromotor 18 is driven corresponding to the size of the sample to regulate the movement of the light projecting portion 11a so as to allow the light projecting portion 11a to approach and separate with respect to a light detecting portion 12 and both of the light projecting portion 11a and the light detecting portion 12 act in proper positional relation to the sample S.
