PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently protect a disk when a disk cartridge is taken out from a recording and reproducing device through expanding a shock absorbing member and when the cartridge is inserted into the device through shrinking the member by providing the member, which is capable of being expanded and shrank, between the wall section of the casing and the disk. SOLUTION: A disk cartridge 10 is provided with a casing 16 which houses a disk 12 being a recording medium and has a notched part 14 for exposing a portion of the disk 12 to the outside. A shock absorbing member 18, which is capable of being expanded and shrank, is provided between the wall section of the casing 16 which section is parallel to the disk 12 and the disk 12. The member 18 is provided on both front and back sides of the disk 12 and has a horseshoe shape to avoide covering up the part 14.
