PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve convenience of a telephone set or portable telephone for a general subscriber which is provided with a telephone directory function, memory dialing function, or abbreviated number dialing function. SOLUTION: In a telephone device such as a telephone set or portable telephone for a general subscriber having a telephone directory function, a memory dialing function, or an abbreviated number dialing function, tag words respectively constituted of not more than three KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters and set so as to be made respectively different from each other are added to subscriber's data stored in a dial memory 54 including the name and telephone number of each registered subscriber, or the telephone number of each registered subscriber is stored in an abbreviated number dial memory by using the similar tag word as an abbreviated number. This telephone device is provided with a function for reading the telephone number of the corresponding subscriber from the memory, and automatically calling only by inputting the tag word, and pressing a call key.
