PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maximize the productivity of raster data and the consumption of the raster data by an output device by sending an image to an alternative output device in an idle state which is assigned according to an output queue of primary output devices and outputting the image on the assigned alternative output device in the idle state once. SOLUTION: An image server 42 receives and stores an image from a front end 40. The image server 42 puts a job in a queue so as to immediately transmit it to RIP 34. An output manager 41 is connected to the RIP 34 through a network 35 and connected directly to an output device 46. The RIP 34 outputs raster data to the output manager 41, which stores them until the output device 46 becomes ready to form an image. The image is sent to the assigned alternative output device in the idle state according to the output queue of primary output devices and the image is outputted on the assigned alternative output device in the idle state once.
