PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nonwoven fabric excellent in stretching property and process-passing through property and capable of providing heat-sensitive stencil printing paper having excellent image and provide a method for producing the nonwoven fabric and obtain the heat-sensitive stencil printing paper. SOLUTION: This nonwoven fabric comprises a thermoplastic fiber having 5-20μm average fiber diameter, <=30% coefficient of variation of fiber diameter and 0-0.06 average double refractive indexΔn and cleavage line on which nonwoven fabric breaks makes an angle of >=10 degree and <=80 degree to width direction of nonwoven fabric. This method for producing the nonwoven fabric comprises changing a thermoplastic polymer melted from a spinneret in which plural orifices arranged in rows are provided, jetting hot air from a slit, obliquely blowing the discharged thermoplastic polymer and collecting the thermoplastic polymer in a sheet-like state onto a moving collecting face while making the thermoplastic polymer fine in fiber-like state. This heat- sensitive stencil printing paper has 0.2-5.0μm thickness of thermoplastic film. This method for producing the base paper comprises laminating the nonwoven fabric and the thermoplastic film and stretching the resultant laminate.
