PURPOSE: A surface discharging type plasma display panel and a driving method thereof is to reduce a non-discharging area, thereby simplifying a structure, and to improve a luminance of the display panel. CONSTITUTION: A surface discharging type plasma display panel comprises two substrates which are opposite each other, a data electrode which is formed into a stripe shape on an opposite face of one substrate, and a displaying electrode Xa, Xb and Ym which is formed into a stripe shape orthogonal to the stripe of the data electrode on an opposite face of the other substrate. In the plasma display panel, assuming that a common electrode corresponding to a discharging cell in a row of an odd number is Xa and a common electrode corresponding to a discharging cell in a row of an even number is Xb and a scanning electrode of a 'm'th pair of discharging cells(m=1,2,3...) in which the discharging cells in the row of the odd and even numbers adjacent to each other is Ym, the common electrode Xa and Xb and the scanning electrode Y are arranged in an order of Xa-Y1-Xa-Y1-Xb-Y1-Xb-Xa-Y2-Xa-Y2-Xb-Y2-Xb-Xa-Y3...Xa-Ym-Xa-Ym-Xb-Ym-Xb-.... etc. |
