PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject element useful for flat-panel displays or multicolor displays or the like, capable of being driven at a high emission efficiency and of maintaining steady emission characteristics for a long time, by including a layer having a specific metal-complex compound. SOLUTION: This element is obtained by including a layer having a metal- complex compound of formula I [R1 to R6 are each H, a halogen or a (substituted) alkyl or the like; R7 to R9 are each a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) aralkyl, a (substituted) alkenyl or the like, and have no possibility of being the same group; M is Al or Ga] [e.g. bis(2-methyl-8-quinolinolato) (diphenylmethylsilanolato)aluminum]. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reacting the compound of formula III produced by hydrolyzing a compound of formula II (e.g. a diphenylmethylchlorosilane) in the presence of aniline, with a compound of formula IV (e.g. 2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline) and a metal alkoxide.
