PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition having a high wear resistance and a low heat-release property without deteriorating its high failure characteristics, and a pneumatic tire for heavy load. SOLUTION: A rubber composition containing, against 100 pts.wt. rubber component containing 50 pts.wt. or more diene rubber prepared using a lithium amide polymerization initiator, from 35 to 60 pts.wt. carbon black and from 0 to 25 pts.wt. silica. Here, the ratio of the dibutyl phthalate(DBP) oil absorption to 24M4DBP oil absorption (DBP oil absorption/24M4DBP oil absorption) in carbon black is 1.20 or larger, and the ratio of the DBP oil absorption to the nitrogen adsorption specific area (N2SA) (DBP oil absorption/N2SA) is 0.8 or larger. A pneumatic tire for heavy load is prepared using this.
