PURPOSE: An error correcting decryption device of a mobile communication system and a method thereof are provided to give graded confidence to coherently detected data symbols and decrypt the same for error correction so as to keep data transmission rate as it is and decrease probability of error detection at the same time. CONSTITUTION: An error correcting decryption method for a receiver of a mobile communication system comprises the steps of: extracting pilot signals (11) from received data signals; estimating sizes and phases of the received data signals by using the extracted pilot signals; detecting the received data signals after receiving the information on the sizes and phases of the estimated received data; giving graded confidence to the output symbols of the detected signals according to distance from the pilot symbols; and decrypting the detected signals given the confidence for error correction. The error correcting decryption device for a receiver of a mobile communication system using pilot symbols and error correcting symbols in accordance with the present invention has an advantage of keeping the data transmission rate as it is and considerably decreasing the symbol error probability by giving graded confidence to outputs of a coherent detector (22, 32) and decrypting the same for error correction.
