Phase detection apparatus and method, wherein a one-pitch cycle is cutout of an input signal waveform and then that cutout one-pitch cycle is dimension converted into 2k-sample data. The data conversion is performed on respective higher harmonic components of the input signal according to a real part and an imaginary part of the orthogonal data that has been converted.
