PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated seed especially suitable, for example, for the case in which the averaged value of the maximum diameters of the seeds is >=1 mm, having the coated layer prevented from being collapsed or peeled out at the time of seeding or during transportation or the like, excellent in stability and hardly causing decrease of germination rate. SOLUTION: This coated seed has a coating layer (inner layer) formed on the surface of the seed to be coated, and a surface layer (outermost layer) formed (laminated) on the surface of the coating layer and composed of a composition containing micas and clayey minerals. The thickness of the surface layer is more preferably within the range of 1-1,000μm. The weight averaged flake diameter of the micas is more preferably 5-500μm. A double chain clayey mineral is especially preferable as the clayey mineral, and sepiolite is most preferable.
