PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion control device for an internal combustion engine to prevent worsening of a combustion state during switching of a combustion system. SOLUTION: In the operation region of an engine 11 where 'weak stratified combustion' is impracticable, a combustion system is switched between 'stratified combustion' and 'homogeneous combustion'. According to the switching, a fuel injection mode is also switched between a state suitable for 'stratified combustion' and a state suitable for 'homogeneous combustion'. During a time in which a given time starting from a demand for switching a combustion system elapses, a throttle valve 23 and an EGR valve 43 are controlled to a given opening being a middle between a demand opening before the switching and a demand opening after the switching. This constitution prevents the intake state of the engine 11 from being widely deviated from a demand state.
