PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a processing efficiency and a durability by shortening a starting stopping time of a main shaft. SOLUTION: This main shaft device is constituted of a housing 10; a main shaft 15 supported to the housing 10 through a bearing 19; and an electric motor 20 provided in the housing 10 and rotating/driving the main shaft 15. The main shaft 15 is made of a titanium-aluminum intermetallic compound and a taper aperture 15b for attaching a tool holder 38 is formed on a tip end surface 15a. A surface cured layer is formed on a surface, contacted with the tool holder 38, of the taper aperture 15b by treating the titanium-aluminum intermetallic compound. The surface cured layer is formed by a discharge machining and it is preferable that a portion contacted with the tool holder 38 is finished by machining.
