PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately predict the load-settlement curve of the improved ground according to the actual situation when compacting and improving a structure direct foundation bearing foundation by placing sand piles, to determining the specification of sand pile generation reasonably and economically based on it and to confirm the improved result simply and economically. SOLUTION: When the soft ground on which a direct foundation structure is constructed is to be compacted and improved by sand pile generation, the specification of the sand pile generation is determined based on the following equation, and the improved result is confirmed based on the following equation: (S/B)/q=(S/B)qb+1/(α×Ka)F where S = settlement (cm), B = minimum size of foundation, e.g. diameter in case of a circle (cm), q = ground load factor of foundation (kgf/cm2), qb = ultimate bearing capacity between sand piles and ground and ultimate bearing capacity of improved ground (kgf/cm2),α= reduction coefficient (numeral of 1.0 or below), and Ka = initial tangential grade of sand pile (kgf/cm2).
