The invention relates to a method and a device for determining the content of metallic contaminant particles in a lubricating grease. The method comprises sampling of the lubricating grease. In accordance with the invention, the method further comprises exposing the lubricating grease sample (N) to a first magnetic field (H1) alternating at constant frequency and determining the content of contaminant particles in the lubricating grease sample by the influence of a second magnetic field (H2) resisting variations in the first magnetic field (H1), the second magnetic field (H2) being produced by eddy currents induced in the contaminant particles.
