PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce a proper tone picture, even though an exposing state at the time of photographing is improper, by calculating a representative value showing the inclination of the distribution of the value of pixel data concerning at least one histogram so as to correct a tone curve. SOLUTION: Red(R), green(G) and blue(B) histograms are prepared, and concerning each histogram, a normalized intermediate value J being a representative value showing the tendency of the distribution of the value of pixel data is obtained. Then, the tone curve being the input/output characteristics of a lookup table(LUT) for executing gamma correction and color tone correction based on a difference between a regulated value K2 and the normalized intermediate value J are corrected concerning pixel data of the color components of R, G, B. Thus, even though the exposing state at the time of photographing the color picture recorded in a negative film is improper, a picture of a proper tone can be reproduced.
