A silver halide photosensitive material is described, which comprises at least one of the compounds represented by the following formula (I) wherein Z1 and Z2 each represents an atomic group necessary for forming a five- or six-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring, R1, R2, R3 and R4 each represents an alkyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group, Q represents a divalent linking group or a single bond, with the proviso that at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4 and Q is substituted with a water-soluble group, L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L6, L7 and L8 each represents a methine group, n1 and n2 each is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, p1 and p2 each is 0 or 1, M1 represents a charge equilibrium counter ion, and m1 is a number of from 0 to 10, which is necessary for neutralizing charge of the molecule.
