PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quantitatively evaluate degree of focus and resolution of character of a display tube. SOLUTION: Luminance data are measured every fluorescent dots 31 of line image indicated by most thin width by single color. Each luminance data are integrated in response to the dots arranged in a direction acrossing a vertical line 28, based on the measured data of the dots 31. The integrated data are smoothing-treated to obtain luminance distribution of a direction acrossing the line 28. Total size of a part where luminance which is not less than a predetermined luminance (50%) is created is found, thereby degree of focus of a display tube is evaluated according to the size.
