PRODUCTION OF L-GLUTAMIC ACID THROUGH FERMENTATION PROCESS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and efficient production process for glutamic acid by growing a strain that has high ability to produce L-glutamic acid. SOLUTION: A coryneform bacterium that is increased its activity of the pyruvate dehydrogenase by increasing the copying number of the gene encoding the intracellular pyruvate dehydrogenase and has the capability of producing L-glutamic acid is cultured in a culture medium, preferably including >=20 μg/L of vitamin B1 to accumulate L-glutamic acid in the culture mixture. Finally L-glutamic acid is collected from the culture mixture.
