PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a fluid pump capable of priming a print head without bubbling of ink, without waste of excessive ink and lacking of accurate control in the priming operation. SOLUTION: A driving gear 94 having teeth engaged with a driving gear 92 is coupled to a common shaft for a driving gear 96 having teeth engaged with an arm positioning gear 98. A step motor 90 rotates the driving gear 92, then an arm 80 is rotated by an angle slightly smaller than 90 degrees. By moving the arm 80, the position of the arm 80 attached to a pivot shaft 82, i.e., a position of an exit of a pump 50 at the top end thereof is aligned to a fluid inlet of a fluid passage of a carriage. By moving the carriage, a predetermined quality of fuild is exchanged with a print head at a predetermined pressure through the fluid passage. |
