PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful as a pigment having high image stability and high solubility for organic solvents and capable of obtaining uniform and clear images in sublimation transfer printing and inkjet printing. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is a (substituted) alkyl; R2 to R4 are each H, a (substituted) alkyl, a (substituted) alkyloxycarbonyl or mono or dialkylaminocarbonyl; and (n) is an integer] such as a compound represented by formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a haroquinophthalone compound of formula III (X is a halogen) [e.g. 2-(4- chloro-3-hydroxy-2-quinolinyl)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione] with an ester of mercaptocarboxylic acid of formula IV (e.g. n-octyl thioglycolate) dissolved or suspended in an organic solvent. |
