SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engine with external supply of heat in which piston and rod hot spaces are formed in one cylinder, and piston and rod cold spaces, in other cylinder. Working cycle on P,V diagram is presented by two isochores and two isothermas. New method of operation is implemented in proposed externally heater engine according to which, owing to location of hot and cold spaces in different cylinders and such organization of gas exchange process that working stroke and compression take place at intracylinder gas exchange, and preparation process at intercylinder gas exchange, relative harmful volumes and harmful heat exchange between hot and cold spaces are materially decreased. EFFECT: increased efficiency, improved relative mass and dimensional characteristics of engine, dispensing with regenerators. 6 dwg
