The tool interchange box has a base housing (18) with at least one holder (30) for at least one associated tool holder that can be altered, whereby the tool holder is fitted with at least one tool receptacle. At least one sensor (40,42) is fitted in the housing and/or holder to detect the state of occupation of the holder. The sensor can positively identify the tool set up in the holder for operation. An Independent claim is also included for an application of the device.
