Smart cards are fed to printer (30,34) to be overprinted. Printed plastic product is then checked at printer output for quality of overprint (32,36). Overprint is detected by equipment and compared with reference (42). If preset abnormality in reference is exceeded, then feeding smart cards to printer stops and printer receives replacements like blanks (24) for smart cards. Their form is adapted to agree with that of smart cards.
