PURPOSE: A timer apparatus for microcontroller development system is provided to estimate the time of one or more channels simultaneously. CONSTITUTION: A timer apparatus comprises a prescaler(20) receiving an external signal and generating a separation signal, and a timer circuits(30) having a first 16 bit counter(40) and a second 16 bit counter(50). A timer includes several input terminals for receiving external control signal indicating an operation mode of a timer, and three terminals connected to a data bus. Upon receiving the external control signals, the first and the second counters count the separated clock signal generated from the prescaler. If the external mode selection signal indicates 0, the timer operates two 16 counters, otherwise the timer uses a 32 bit counter. These two operation modes enable the timer to estimate each time of two channels simultaneously.
