MIXING TYPE OPTICAL AMPLIFIER

PURPOSE: A mixing type optical amplifier is provided to selectively use a laser source generating function by setting up voluntarily a wavelength band of light oscillated by oscillating pumping light of an optical amplifier and a fixed gain optical amplification function generated by setting up constantly the amplification gain of an input light. CONSTITUTION: A mixing type optical amplifier includes a wavelength division multiplexing unit(3), an erbium doped fiber(4), a switch(20), a tap-coupler(6) and a controller(9). The wavelength division multiplexing unit applies an input light signal(S) and pumping light(P) into the erbium doped fiber through a transmission path. The erbium doped fiber amplifies the light signal. The switch outputs the light output from the erbium doped fiber into a first output terminal or the tap-coupler according to a operation mode. The tap-coupler divides the light applied by the switch by a predetermined ratio and outputs some into a second output terminal and the other into the controller as monitoring signal. The controller controls an operational current of the pumping light applied into the wavelength division multiplexing unit based on the monitoring signal applied into the tap-coupler.
