SOLUTION: Temperature of a plasma display device 1A is measured by a temperature sensor 32 such as a thermocouple added to an arbitrary location of a panel section 2. The temperature is detected by a temperature detecting section 33 provided in a control circuit 4A, The number of spare discharge pulses is determined by a sequence control section 5A based on the relationship between the temperature of a prescribed portion of the device 1A and the number of the applications of the pulses. The relationship is beforehand determined by an experiment and simulation. Then, the circuit 4A controls a high voltage driving circuit so that the circuit outputs the pulses to the section 2 for the application number that is determined, Thus, the number of spare discharge pulses is appropriately set in accordance with the temperature of the panel.
