COATED FIBROUS MAT-FACED GYPSUM BOARD RESISTANT TO WATER AND HUMIDITY

Disclosed is a gypsum-based panel comprising a gypsum core faced on at least one surface thereof with a mat comprising mineral fibers. The surface of the mineral fiber mat is covered with a substantially humidity and water-resistant resinous coating to the extent that substantially none of the fibers protrude from the coating. The coating has a surface water absorption value, as measured by the Modified Cobb Test, of no greater than about 2.4 grams. The coating of the invention is capable of bonding with Portland cement-based mortar.
