PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for automatically restarting an optical transmitter in an optical fiber cable system. SOLUTION: On the occurrence of a fault, after the transmitter itself is automatically shut down, the transmitter is restarted. This method includes a step where the transmitter periodically transmits a restart pulse to a system and return of the pulse received/sent by other receiver/transmitter to a transmission point within a prescribed time is awaited, and also a step where a restart pulse ON time is extended by a prescribed time without fail at the reception/ retransmission. Thus, this method is independent of a delay introduced along an optical link through the introduction of an additional device (that is, a wavelength division multiplex WDM device) and can more easily conduct the restart operation within a range of a safety limit imposed on a short duration time of the pulse occurred for the first period of the pulse. |
