PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the light of a monitor means form being made incident on the eye of a photographing person to give unnatural feeling and to give a fault to the observation of a finder by inhibiting the display operation of the monitor means in a period from switching on to moving down of a quick return mirror. SOLUTION: When a monitor switch is in an on state, an LCD monitoring device 120 and a back light illuminating device 214 being the constituting elements of the monitor means are turned on at a next step and then, the quick return mirror 203 is moved down to return into a state before photographing. Thus, the displaying operation of the monitor means is inhibited in the period from a photographing preparing state to a photographing operating state, namely until the mirror 203 is moved down since switching on to moving down in a series of photographing operation of a digital camera. In a period when the photographing person has no opportunity to observe the device 120, the display operation of the device 120 and the device 214 is stopped.
