PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely remove magnetic carrier from a catch roller by forming a magnetic brush, which slides over the surface of the catch roller, out of carrier transferred from the catch roller to a magnet. SOLUTION: During the development of an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor 4, magnetic carrier 6 in developer 5 sticks to the surface of a photoreceptor. By the rotation of the photoreceptor 4, the magnetic carrier 6 is led as far as a position where it faces a catch roller 7. The catch roller 7 comprises a magnet roller 7a and a sleeve 7b, and attracts the magnetic carrier 6 on the surface of the photoreceptor 4 by the magnetic force of the N-pole of the magnet roller 7a and a bias voltage applied to the sleeve 7b. By the rotation of the sleeve 7b, the magnetic carrier 6 is led as far as a position where it faces a magnet 3. The magnet 3 forms a magnetic brush onto the magnet 3 by using the magnetic carrier 6 transferred from the sleeve 7b, scrapes the magnetic carrier 6, recovered on the sleeve 7b, by means of the magnetic brush, and puts it back into a developing device 1.
