PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for restarting an argon side arm tower, which is efficient and improved in operability. SOLUTION: A mixture containing oxygen, nitrogen and argon is separated by low-temperature distillation in a distillation system comprising a distillation tower which generates a nitrogen enriched flow, an oxygen enriched flow and an argon enriched flow and a side arm tower 100 which has a sump and receives the argon enriched flow from the distillation tower. In this method, liquid stock in the side arm tower 100 is collected at a certain point above the sump during interruption of running of the argon enriched flow to the tower 100 and recirculated via this tower 100 during the interruption and during restarting of a side arm.
