PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress discharge expansion in the vertical direction and enhance resolution. SOLUTION: In this PDP wherein a plurality of main electrodes X and Y defining horizontal spaces in a screen are arranged such that the main electrodes adjacent each other are to be an electrode pair for enabling surface discharge to be generated and discharge spaces are partitioned vertically by a plurality of barrier ribs 29 spaced each other in the horizontal direction, at least one of the pair of barrier ribs 29 corresponding to each vertical space in the screen is consisted of a base part 29A in a plane visible band shape extending throughout the entire length of the screen and a plurality of projection parts 29B extending in the horizontal direction from the base part 29A with the main electrodes arranged in the vertical direction. A structure that a vertical space 31 as one column of discharge space is periodically narrowed by the projection parts 29B is provided.
