PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high image quality in which color register slippage is reduced and high speed in an electrophotographic image forming device comprising photoreceptor drums and an intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: In the image forming device, an intermediate transfer belt 1 is stretched between a drive roller 1a, a separation roller 1b, and a support roller 1c, and the support roller 1c is provided with a speed detection roller 1d abutting on the support roller 1c via the intermediate transfer belt 1 and is rotated at the same speed as the speed of the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 1 so as to follow the belt. To the speed detection roller 1d, a rotating-speed detection element 19 is directly connected to measure the rotating speed of the speed detection roller 1 d and transmit a signal to a control circuit. By reflecting this for the control of the drive of the drive roller 1a, an irregularity in the running of the intermediate transfer belt 1 is eliminated.
