PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a zoom lens which is suitable for a video zoom lens highly requiring miniaturization, specially a photographing optical system using an image pickup tube and by which the total length and the width of a lens system including an imaging device are reduced. SOLUTION: A master part consisting of a lens group arranged on a most image side and fixed at the time of varying power is provided with a master front group GM1 having a first optical axis AX1, a master rear group GM2 having a second optical axis AX2 and a deflecting means 31 guiding light made incident from the master front group along the first optical axis to the master rear group along the second optical axis by deflecting at least twice. An optical path length aerially converted between the maser front group and the master rear group is set so as to be substantially larger than an effective size at the deflecting means.
