PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device and a signal reading method, by which AE(automatic exposure control) control, for example, is executed from photodetectors arranged in a honeycomb shape by an image pickup signal including whole colors which are used for color dissolution. SOLUTION: A digital still camera 10 sets a mode by a mode designating part 10E and supplies the signal of the designated mode to a system control part 12. By the supply, the part 12 controls a driving signal creating part 10C and creates a driving signal. An incident light is supplied to an image pickup part 104 via a color dissolving filter CF where same color filter G are arranged in a line direction. The image pickup part 1O4 photoelectrically transforms the incident light by each photodetector, the driving signal from the part 10C in accordance with the designated mode is supplied to a signal reading gate and the jump transfer of a signal electric charge is executed. In this case, the signals concerning the whole colors are read in accordance with the driving signal by considering the color filter arrayal of the color dissolving filter CF. An AF adjusting part 106 and an AE adjusting part 108 are adjusted and controlled through the use of the read-out signal.
