PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a jitter addition apparatus by which a jitter closer to an actual jitter can be added to a digital input signal. SOLUTION: In this jitter addition apparatus, a received arbitrary digital input signal IN is shaped and processed by a signal-to-be-modulated shaping part 3 so as to generate a signal MD to be modulated, a modulation signal MG is generated by a modulation-signal generation part 5, and the signal MD to be modulated is phase-modulated by the modulation signal MG in a phase modulation part 7. In the phase modulation part 7, the distribution of a jitter to be added is controlled by a jitter-distribution control part 70. The control of the distribution of the jitter includes the control of the deviation of the distribution.
