PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tandem type scanning optical device that the positions of scanning lines with respect to respective photoreceptor drums can be adjusted to be constant even when a heat generating state is different between a housing in which a scanning optical system is housed and a drum supporting body in which the photoreceptor drums are housed. SOLUTION: A temperature sensor for a housing 501 is fitted to a upper housing (10) and a lower housing (20). A temperature sensor for a drum base 502 is fitted to a drum supporting base (30). A temperature sensor for a heater 504 is fitted to a heater 510. By a microcomputer 500, the temperature of the housing and that of the base (30) are monitored. Then, when the temperature of the housing is started to rise compared with that of the base (30), the heater 10 is energized so as to heat the base (30). As the result, the deformation of the housing and that of the base (30) caused by thermal expansion/contraction become identical. Thus, the positions of the scanning lines with respect to the respective photoreceptor drums can be adjusted to be constant.
