The tracks has a carrying rail system and a number of carriages (2) that can be moved optionally independently or in a group along the rail (1). Each carriage contains at least one movement mechanism for moving the carriages along the rail system and at least one drive motor acting on the movement mechanism and at least one autonomous controller that drives the motor according to a stored program and/or external commands. Each carriage has complementary mechanical couplings (10,11) at the front and at the rear. For travel in-groups several carriages are mechanically connected using the engaged couplings.
