The instrument includes a hollow metal grip tube (14) with two ends (19,20) on one of which the peripheral surface of the tube has two types of grip patterns (26,27) cut into it. Two closers (16,18) at the ends comprize base and a fixer which fits slidably into the two respective ends of the tube and is joined metalically to the tube where it adjoins the ends, and this without adhesive of any kind. The first grip pattern (26) is rectangular as opposed to the vee-designed second grip pattern (27). The second vee notching (44) retains constant section though smaller than the first notching. First and second grip patterns can be made of crossed double helices, of which the second pattern comprizes two spaced sectors adjoining the end closers and with a smooth area between the grip parts. One of the end closers has a beveled exterior with a recess for a slidable instrument.
