PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extrusion press dummy block separator and its separation method which can surely, quickly separate a shell or a pressing slag surrounding a dummy block effectively by saving manpower. SOLUTION: This dummy block separator is provided with a separator main body 23 having a through hole 22 for passing a dummy block 21, a pair of links 26 which have a claw 25 and arranged opposingly for getting the dummy block in between, liquid pressure cylinders 28 for pressing the claws to the dummy block by reciprocating the links, a dummy block supporting stand 29 arranged at an entrance side of the separator main body, and a stem 30 for pushing the dummy block into the through hole of the separator element.
