PRODUCTION OF DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method for producing dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) by which NOX used as a catalyst is recycled for use in a continuous oxidizing reaction of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) in a production process for the DMSO, specifically a method for producing the DMSO by which the recovery ratio or absorption ratio of the NOX or both are improved by recovering and reutilizing the NOX from a reactional off-gas and/or a degassed gas. SOLUTION: Air subjected to a pressure swing adsorption treatment is used as a gas consisting essentially of oxygen and at least a part of a reactional product liquid obtained by an oxidizing reaction and containing dimethyl sulfoxide and NOX is recycled and fed to the oxidizing reaction in a method for producing the dimethyl sulfoxide comprising subjecting dimethyl sulfide in the liquid phase to the continuous oxidizing reaction with the gas consisting essentially of the oxygen using the NOX catalyst.
